Using Adobe Photoshop to Manipulate Digital Images – Before and After

Editing in photoshop opens the windows to imaginations and any type of digital creation. Here are some quick images I combined from a recent to make it more interesting. Here you will find a quick explanation of what I did and the before and after with the assets I used.

For this first quick edit, I wanted to use this portrait of a man with a skull-like paint I took at a Halloween theme photo-shoot. I wanted to keep it in the same area of a creepy-like theme, so I found a background using Unsplash.com of a forest with dead trees. I first edited the original image to add a bit more contrast, emphasize the eyes and add clarity, texture and cooler color temperature. I used Adobe Lightroom for that process. Then I edited in Adobe Photoshop to replace the background.

For this next image, I wanted to have an urban style image with a city at night background. I searched for that background using Unsplash and followed a similar process as for the previous image. To make the colors a bit more interesting in these images, I used color lookups in Adobe Photoshop, which help me not only match the background with the person, but also give a mood to the images. For this next image, I also used the techniques of dodging and burning and frequency separation. I wanted to have blue tones in the shadows and red/orange in the highlights, especially in the skin area to create a settle contrast in colors.

The following image follows the same process. First, a quick edit in Adobe Lightroom where I increase some contrast and shadows, get the color close to where I want it and add some clarity and texture. Then, I edit the image in Adobe Photoshop to modify the background, match it with the original image and create a mood in the overall image by tweaking the colors. For this image, I aimed a more artistic way of editing, instead of trying to recreate reality.
